Ramblings of a Writer Blog
So… Gosh this is hard to do. Since I’ve become an author, one thing I’ve had to learn to do is share more about myself with other people. I’m not great at it, but I assure you that I’m making an effort because my readers are so incredibly important to me. I’ve never been one to share a lot with others, although when I do, I always feel blessed to have the support of so many wonderful, caring people. Here goes…
Back on March 16th, my dad was taken to the hospital. During the span of the last 45 or so days, he has been home a total of 7 days. He had to have emergency surgery and for his privacy, I won’t go into detail. Thankfully, he came through that surgery fine and we thought he was on the mend. Since then, there have been reoccurring complications and, although he’s hanging in, we’re still very worried about him, as you can imagine.
For the last month and a half, we’ve been praying that he will get better and that life for my family will move forward but that has not happened yet. He was home for a solid six days before he was rushed back to the hospital because of more complications. That was two weeks ago.
Today, we were told that he will likely be released from the hospital in the next day or two which is great news for him, but it has the rest of us in a state of panic because his condition hasn’t changed, and the doctors – despite how incredibly hard they are all working – just can’t seem to nail down what is causing the problems which means they aren’t able to fix it with certainty. Because of that, he is going to need around the clock care when he comes home. In order for that to happen, my entire family will need to be here to help take care of him. In order to do that, I have to cancel my upcoming trip to Chicago for the Chicago Author Event. Up until today, we had held out hope that I would be able to go, but at this point, I am not comfortable leaving him even for a few days.
I am devastated that I have to cancel. As many of you may know, we had to cancel a trip a few weeks back because of scheduling issues. And now we have to cancel this due to personal reasons. I have been looking forward to meeting so many of you and it breaks my heart to have to cancel, but as you can understand, I have to make sure my family is taken care of.
I truly hope you understand. I love you all and I have been looking forward to meeting each and every one of you. In the meantime, any prayers and thoughts that you could send for my dad, I would be immensely grateful.
Much Love,
~Nic~
