Ramblings of a Writer Blog

It sure seems like I was just announcing the release of a book in the Club Destiny series… Oh, wait, I did. Just recently. Well, guess what all you Club Destiny fans! I’ve got an added bonus for you!

Entrusted (Club Destiny, #6.5) is NOW available for pre-order on Amazon!

BUT WAIT!
Along with this, I want to make an important announcement.

In May of last year, I made an announcement that was quite difficult for me to make. One that has honestly changed my life in ways I never expected. For those of you who were hanging with me at this time, you learned something about me that I generally don’t tell many people. I suffer from severe depression. I manage my depression with the help of my doctor and with medication, and yes, for the most part, I function quite normally. There are plenty of ups and downs, and I’m so grateful for the amazing family and friends that I have because they help me through each day – and yes, we take it one day at a time.
So, you may wonder why I’m asking for your attention. Actually, I wanted to let you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month. And because this is something so near and dear to me, I’m here to let you know that in May (from May 1st through May 31st), I will be donating a portion of the proceeds from ALL of my Club Destiny series sales (Conviction, Temptation, Addicted, Seduction, Infatuation, Captivated, Devotion, Perception, Entrusted) to The Keith Milano Memorial Fund.

Last year, thanks to the amazing readers who helped support this wonderful cause and with a personal donation added by Colt and I, we were able to raise $10,000. I would love to top that this year! And you can help. Not only will I be donating a portion of my proceeds, but there are a lot of wonderful authors who will also be donating a portion of their May proceeds as well. As we get closer to May, you’ll see a lot more about this and I’ll make sure to get the list posted with links to all of the books that will benefit this truly great cause.
You can learn more about the Keith Milano Memorial Fund which benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention below as well as going to http://www.KeithMilano.org.

The Keith Milano Memorial Fund was established to help raise awareness about the devastating and deadly disease that is mental illness. Keith’s spirit and laughter is kept alive through our efforts to increase awareness about mental illness and to raise money for education and imperative research. Keith often struggled with society’s perception of mental illness. Our hope is that by having the strength to say that Keith was “Bipolar” we can strip away the stigma and help others to be more open about their disease. www.keithmilano.org

The Keith Milano Memorial Fund benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). www.afsp.org

AFSP is the only national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education, and to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide.

AFSP is a fully accredited 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization incorporated in the state of Delaware with primary offices in New York City. Federal tax ID # is 13-3393329. AFSP’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) number is 10545. All donations to AFSP are tax deductible.

  1. Always remember you are never alone! We as your reader/followers wish nothing but the best for you!! Health and Happiness..Love and Understanding..may you always experience these and so much more. Even though we have never met, you and Colt have opened up to all of us and I know I feel as though I do. Stay strong and keep doing what your doing because it is abso-freaking-lutely wonderful!!!!!

  2. I also struggle with mental illness. I have bipolar type 1. the most important step I took towards recovery was to change my thinking from "I'm bipolar" to "i have bipolar" because you wouldn't say I'm cancer, right? mental illness is an illness just like cancer. I also would look and see if your local NAMI chapter is holding a walk.

  3. Oh my how I feel this to my very soul I suffer from it too and several years ago I thought I was in control which is a mistake a serious mistake with depression Long story short I ended up in a psych ward of a hospital convinced I was going to die before they got me fixed Thank you for sharing and thanks for shedding such a bright light on Depression

  4. Mental illness is so misunderstood by many people. My husband suffered from schitzophrenia but with help from family and friends and his own understanding of the illness he managed to live a fairly normal life. We were married for 43 years when he died from cancer. Although he was not ill when we married i would not change any aspect of my life if i could relive it.

  5. You are an inspiration to us all. I take medication for depression and anxiety attacks. My depression is under control but I still fight panic attacks daily. We will always help and support you.

  6. I know now that I was suffering from depression, but it wasn't until my son commited suicide that it really hit me. From an outward appearance most people most of the time wouldn't know there was a thing wrong with you. They have no idea the emotions running through your mind. A blood clot, loss of sight in one eye, shingles, divorce and loosing your job to downsizing don't help the situation either. I don't have quite as many bouts of crying as I used to, so you just try to soldier thru. Sometimes the pain isn't as obvious as a broken leg or arm.

  7. I have Bipolar 2 Disorder and just March 1 talked of suicide to the point that my mom took me to the ER and wanted them to admit me. I ended up back home that night, but hid well my continued desire to end my pain (I also have daily migraines, so between the pain causing the depression causing the pain cycle and not getting the help I need from the local mental health center, I'm a very unhappy person.) I have a great psychiatrist (the only one at the mental health center who is worth a damn) who works with me closely to alter my medications as needed to attack some of my issues. But I'm still very low and fighting very hard to come back up. I'll be donating to this cause. Also, I hope to provide something for the fund to auction when they hold their golf fundraiser. If you know someone who is hurting, don't be afraid to reach out. Even a hug and a smile can change their day and their thoughts. And be aware of negative looks and words – they can also change a person's day and their thoughts, just not for the better.

  8. I understand totally. My husband suffer from depression and is unipolar (very few cases documented) and had to retire in 1999 at the age of 43.

  12. Mental illness is one of those things that society takes too lightly, it runs in my family, I've seen my closest family members & friends fight it. My heart goes out to everyone battling this disease and whatever can be done to spread awareness & help those in need, I'm there. Nicole you are an inspiration to so many people and you are not only am amazing author but an amazing person.

  13. Nicole, I struggle with Major Depressive Disorder and have for most of my life. I've been medicated on and off for the past 12 years and it does help, though the rollercoaster is forever in motion. I thank you for your efforts to raise awareness and funds for this cause. I will be making my contribution to you both in May. 🙂 God Bless. ~Kristen <3

  14. My daughter suffers from severe depression and Bi-polar one. I was so impressed when you let us know that you deal with depression. I was able to share with my daughter that it is possible to have a future that she can look forward to.

  16. I to suffer from depression, I have since 2003. I manage it with medication, and I drown myself in books. Reading is my escape. I'm very thankful to have real authors out there that will talk or write back if messaged. There are a lot out there that doesn't. I love all your books, thank you for being such an amazing author and being real with your readers. We all love you..

  17. Nicole, you and Cole are amazing people. I support all suicide prevention causes, 11 years ago we lost my nephew at the age of 16 years old due to depression (BiPolar disorder) he hung himself from a tree in the woods behind his home. and this past November we just lost a beautiful 13 year old girl who also suffered with depression and hung herself in her family's home bathroom. Thank you for all of your love and support.

  18. I totally understand what you're going through, being diagnosed with depression like you. Is difficult but with the understanding of those that love us it can be conquered. So I'm here telling that I support you, and the efforts your making to raise awareness of this type of diseases that often are jot taken seriously. So proud of you coming out to us and for your decision of trying to be part of the solution.
