Ramblings of a Writer

Remember that time when I was writing all the words...

You won’t find anything fancy in this post, just some ramblings from a mentally exhausted, unmotivated writer.

It pains me to admit that, by the way. Unmotivated? Me? How can that possibly be? I mean, it makes no sense, right? I have written and published 95 books at this point in my career. So why is it that I now have 3 or 4 half-written books? And by that, I mean, I get about halfway through and then BAM! My muse dries up and I’m flailing.

Halfway through.

Sheesh!

Unfortunately, it’s true. I’m stuck in a rut at the moment. I can’t quite pinpoint one specific thing that’s holding me down, but I’m definitely down. That doesn’t mean I’m not trying. I am. Every morning I sit down at my desk and attempt to bang out a few words, silently hoping for a few thousand but ending up with a few hundred.

I’m not giving up, but I thought maybe if I put this out in the universe, it might send me back some good vibes. I need them.

If you’re feeling generous, maybe you could comment with some motivating words. Or even just tell me what book of mine that you enjoyed the most. That might help. 🙂

And this is me taking a deeeeeeeep breath. I will fight through this. Of that, I’m certain.

Happy Friday, y’all!

Recent Releases

Welcome to my blog, aptly named Ramblings of a Writer. Some of the posts make sense, others not so much, but from time to time, I just need to get stuff off my mind, and this is how I do it.

  1. Nicole,
You are such a creative writer and I have enjoyed SO MANY of your books that mentioning a favorite is not possible. It’s okay to have moments in our careers that aren’t the best, I’ve not been real motivated myself lately. Maybe try a new hobby and see if that takes your mind from not being able to write like you want. Regardless, give yourself grace!
    Love,
    Misty

  2. Please Nicole stay strong – for yourself and your family – you have had an amazing impact on so many people across the world – know that you are loved by us all – as for favourite books – they are all amazing but my favourite has to be Curtis – don’t think I have ever had such an emotional rollercoaster with any other book – thank you so much for your wonderful words and stay strong

  3. I wish I could reach through the computer and give you a hug… and then maybe not if you’re not a hugger. 🤗 Last week you responded to a post I made (a very nervous, rambling post) and it was the highlight of my day. Your books bring me lots of joy. Again and again.

I’ve read all your books and whenever I need a good read, I either pick up one of your series to read again or just pick up one of your books at random. Yesterday I reread Zane because it’s been a while since I read that one and I loved the connection between Zane and V. And Beau? Oh my!

I don’t know that I could pick a favourite book of yours because they’re all so good, but I’ve spent many, many hours with two of your series late. The first being the Brantley Walker: Off the Books series, which is actually funny because I resisted reading it for a long time. I’m not even sure why, and I didn’t even start reading the series until you released Off Course. But one day I really wanted to read one of your books and I’d read all your other books I had recently, so I finally broke down and downloaded All In. Now I’ve read the entire series three times. Or maybe four. 😆 It’s just that good.

When I read Misplaced Halos, I loved it so much that the following week I reread all 3 books.

I’m rambling again, but I want you to know that whatever you write (or not write), in the future, your books have brought so much joy to so many of us. Please give yourself some compassion.

Since you’re still releasing books, your muse is still there. Maybe she just needs something a little different for a while or a short break. 💜

  4. I personally love your no major suspense books. I love the Walkers and really hope you continue the Austin Arrows series. Sending you love and good vibes!!!

  5. Maybe it’s the pending election that’s weighing on you, this isn’t a political email trying to sway you to one side or the other. I am having some stress about this election, so maybe when it’s over you can begin to get out of the funk you’re in. It’s just a thought I’m no Dr. I’m wishing you luck.🍀🍀🍀🍀

  6. We aren’t human if we don’t have some type of block 😭😞😭.
You are an exceptional author Nicole and maybe your muses are chilling, anyway….
The book still to date that emotionally bonds me is Travis. A strong emotional, dominant, yet broken man keeps on pulling onto my heartstrings. Will he ever find his salvation? Will he lose Cage, though he too is determined to hold it all together, the children, the family.
An awareness of Mental Health has been further brought forth within the Walker series and their extended family

Did I help, I’m not certain but I’m aiming to please. One step at a time, one day at a time. The muses will all be visiting

    Stay safe
You and all your loved ones, yes that includes Henesey & Moscato
    Hope I didn’t forget anyone
    🥰🥰🥰

  7. I love all your books because the characters seem to be human. They aren’t perfect and have issues just like me. My favorite book is Curtis. It doesn’t matter how many times I have read it, I cry everyone when it seems Lorrie might die. Because that is how real people will react.

You will get through this. If you need to get up and walk away, do it. Your mental health is the most important thing. Take care of yourself first, the rest will come.

  8. Nicole dear….I probably shouldn’t make this about me, but dagnabit! I was under the impression that I owned the complete Nicole Edwards library only to learn today that I’ve been cheated. You wrote 95 books? Any chance you’re exaggerating that number? Because I looked in my library and found I only have 77 of those books and I’m just slightly teed off. This situation cannot last. I’m spending the evening figuring out just which books I haven’t loved yet, and, then doing something about that! (Between me & thee tho, I’m secretly pleased to know that I’ve got a winter’s worth of Nicole Edwards to read. I’m over the moon happy! And, yet…still teed.)

I remember very well my first Nicole Edwards book….Seduction from Club Destiny series. I know! I slipped that baby under my mattress so many times before I finished it. I can report for science that a person does blush when alone. My second NE book was Travis. Oh, boy. He has a wife and a what?? And, there I was….hooked so completely that it is a rare day that I don’t read a book of yours. Or, re-read. Or, re-re-read. Your writing always entrances me, first time or fifth. If only you knew how many people out there love you. Bless your heart. ♥

I’m not a professional so I really can’t tell you what to do when you can’t seem to do anything. I’m confident tho, that most of us have been there, only, of course, without thousands of fans breathing down our necks, crying like unweaned calves. Judging by the amount of talent you possess, I’m guessing that you exist on a plain I’ve only heard of, but….when I don’t know what to do with a situation, I read. Sometimes romance, sometimes true crime. (My cynical heart is convinced those two go together nicely. ) Sometimes Neil deGrasse Tyson, other times, a classic Erma Bombeck. Somehow my brain runs in the background, sorting everything out and getting it back in place. There is just one more thought: Who in the world is telling you that you have to write this minute? If inspiration isn ‘t coming, so what? Just breathe and know that the creative spirit inside you doesn’t care what the calendar says. Your fans will all be here when you publish another book. Don’t let us pressure you. If you’re tied down to a publsiher, I can do nothing. Although, I do know a guy who knows a guy… I believe his name is Max, out of Dallas, scary but a good heart. 🙂

  9. If readers have reading slumps, it’s only natural that writers will have them, too. I even have slumps in my reading when I’m reading a book I know I would usually love, so I have to put it aside for later. We, your readers, may be anxious for each new book, but we care about you more than your books and can wait for you and your muse to be ready.

I want to add that my favorite books and characters from you always change with my mood and with the latest book. But Speechless always pops in my head when the question comes up so it must be one of my all time favorites. I cannot express how much I adore Hudson!
